Nicola Denti A fantastic album where listening by listening you can discover new details. Giacomo's playing is particularly inspired, melodic, groovy, an extraordinary technique never an end in itself. Compositions are very accurate in the arrangement and so rich in musical styles that intertwine with each other, nothing sounds trivial or obvious. The mix is really well done, guitar sounds are wonderful, the new mastering makes it even more alive. The album turns twenty, but this is timeless music. Favorite track: L.F.L.

about

CUTTING BRIDGES V3.0 -BANDCAMP EDITION- a new mastering to celebrate 20 years since the first release.

The CD tracks, written between 1991 and 2003 are part of the repertoire of the Florentine musician who has added to them all his lifelong experience of live concerts and studio recordings from all around the world.

Passing from track to track, the music varies from one style to another, giving a sense of change and growth. This is not therefore a CD of shredding, pop or metal; it simply is the first CD of a musician that has focussed his vision on “composing to listen”.

THE TRACKS IN A FEW WORDS:

1) GAZTAMBIDE
A bit of Led Zep, a bit of Prodigy and a bit of Giacomo Castellano for a track that was written while in Madrid, discovering that the city is more “rocking” that one might think.

2) LFL
Slide guitars and horns at unisone in the chorus, a blues rock approach to a more modern composing style.

3) MUSIC PART ONE
A good mixture between funk, rock, jazz, hip hop. The lyrics are very subjective and spontaneous about Music; dear “olde” music! (Featuring Andre Halyard, a.k.a Dre Love).

4) THE DREAM LAYING ON MY BED
A song which is one of his dearest that he wrote in 1993 with Rossella Ruini (Di4s, Bocelli, Piovani, Pino Daniele). A ballad in 6/8 in crescendo with a psychedelic finale.

5) MUSIC PART TWO
This is a sort of sequel of track 3. The horns deserved more space.

6) GARBAGE
This is the more melodic guitar background of Giacomo. Behind the apparent simplicity, this is one of the lead tracks that made him sweat!

7) LITTLE ELVES
This is literally a sound mosaic. It is quite an atmospheric piece that works as an intro for the following track. It has been built on an old analog recording, subsequently rearranged and edited. The guitar is intertwined with Rossella Ruini’s vocals, creating a landscape of ethereal sounds.

8) BIG AS A KEY
This one has been composed and sung by Rossella Ruini. The rhythm changes in the refrain, where guitars kick in 5/4, with absolute surrealistic lyrics.

9) ARIETE
One of GC most inspired instrumentals! Baritone guitars and distorted bass chase each other in unison and frenetic change of rhythms.

10) TRY TO SAVE YR SONG
Here there is a definitive departure from the previous chapter of the CD. This is the actual “burning bridges” track (“Cutting Bridges is the title of the cover painting of the album, made by Cinzia Castellano, which also imposed a change in the use of the very idiom, turning it into a more apt phrase.) The trumpet evokes a bit of “Miles”, while the arrangement show his personal interest in a certain type of electronic music.

11) ENVIRONMENTS
An acoustic piece developed using experimental chords, totally improvised. Recorded in 1998 and finished in 2002 with the addition of other instruments.

12) CUTTING BRIDGES #1
The title-track (it has to be the very last track, right?). A completely experimental episode for the author, he is trying to play in total freedom without following any precise musical schema.

13) NAKED SUN (bonus track)
Powerful guitar riffs meet awesome drumming, a special extra track included in this release featuring Mr. Thomas Lang on Drums
